Classes Announced for the Metropolitan National Horse Show

New York City, NY - June 11, 2003 - The National Horse Show Association announced the featured jumper and hunter sections to be held indoors at the new Metropolitan National Horse Show in New York City.  The Metropolitan National Horse Show will take place from October 29 to November 2, 2003 at Pier 94 and the Showpiers on the Hudson Complex in Manhattan.

"We wanted to announce the classes at this time so those affected could ensure their qualifying plans take this new show into account," stated manager Bob Bell.  "Exact qualifying rules, including the numbers to be taken in each section, will be announced later in accordance with USA Equestrian rules but in advance of the issuance of the prize list on July 15."  The Metropolitan National Horse Show will be rated "AA" by the national federation.

Special jumper features at the show include the Metropolitan Cup for Junior and Amateur Owner Jumpers, and the Atlantic Cup for Pony Jumpers.  Both classes will be run as a three-phase competition over three days in a modified World Cup format.  Day One will include a Speed Class, Day Two will feature a Jump Off Class, and Day Three will include the Two Round Final.  Many other exciting jumper classes will be held at the show including a Hit and Hurry Class and a Gamblers Choice.

For hunter riders, a full range of classes and divisions will be offered for Regular, Green, Junior, and Pony Hunters.  Classes will be held for Regular Conformation and Working Hunters, as well as Green Conformation and Working Hunters.  Amateur Owner Hunters, Adult Hunters, Small Junior Hunters, Large Junior Hunters, and Children's Hunter all will be offered in two age groups. Additionally, Small, Medium, and Large Pony Hunters and Ladies' Side-Saddle Hunters under saddle and over fences are included.

For many, the centerpiece of the Metropolitan is the ASPCA-Maclay National Horsemanship Championship.  This prestigious class will be held on Sunday, November 2.  Many top American riders, Many top American riders, such as William Steinkraus, Conrad Homfeld, Leslie Howard, Peter Wylde, Ray Texel, and Nicole Shahinian- Simpson won the ASPCA-Maclay National Championship prior to going on to international success in the jumper ring.

"We will be announcing more of the jumper, hunter, and equitation features at the show very shortly," concluded Bell.

The site of the Metropolitan National Horse Show, Pier 94 and the Showpiers Complex, has played host to many top-class events including gift shows, entertainment extravaganzas, and as a location for major motion picture filming and fashion shows. 

After the Metropolitan National Horse Show takes place on October 29 to November 2 in NY, the 120th National Horse Show Indoor Championships will be held at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, NV on November 19 to 23.  The final show of the three events being organized in 2003 by the National Horse Show Association is the 120th National Horse Show Outdoor Championships in Wellington, FL from November 26 to 30.
