Happy Terriers posing with the spoils of the hunt!

A Ratting

Who knows what a Ratting is?

My first ratting was held down the road at a hunt member's house.

The guests were five, "go get em", Jack Russell terriers belonging to staff hunt members.

We all met behind the horse barn at a group of long abandoned dog kennels.

The kennels were now home to lively host of rats and mice, who were occasionally seen by the people doing their day to day jobs. Rat and mice holes were everywhere.

This day, we positioned the terriers all around the kennels. We placed one Jack Russell for each hole. The master of THIS hunt proceeded to get the water hose and squirt it into one of the holes.

INSTANTLY! Excited Jack Russells were jumping, flying and digging into these holes. Each dive brought mouths full of multiple prizes. It was too good to be true! All the feed room bandits were being caught, right before our very eyes! And they kept coming, on and on till finally the game was all accounted for.

Proud owners with their treasured dogs and those onlookers posed for a group picture with about 20 rodents of all size and shape proudly laid out and displayed on a long wooden board.

How's that for a Sunday Afternoon Hunt??  This would be a day to remember.
